Never Be Afraid To Do Anything!
Posted on April 2nd, 2008 in Blogging Tips |
Do you want to launch something big? Want something that will get the attention of your readers? Don’t have the funding? Simply ask for it! When I started off as a blogger I didn’t want to interact with others simply because I thought they would not want to even listen to a single word I said. I thought their take on new bloggers would be they are nothing and they will not give much back to my site. I’ve come a long way since then and I’ve learnt,
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Showing hard work and commitment on your blog is what others like to see. Don’t give up and keep going; I have several times been tempted to not continue my blog because I wasn’t getting nothing out of it, but I’m glad I stayed. They say that most new bloggers fall away after 3 months but keeping with it is something you won’t regret.
My Story
Well if you haven’t heard I’m launching a “Mahoosive” (as I like to call it now
) contest at the end of the month with some very very nice prizes. At current they total over $600 and I still have a month to collect more. To get these prizes I am doing exactly the same as what I’m going to tell you to do! I’m currently holding a contest to Win a Free Domain Name and a YouTube Niche Video Site, but that really isn’t going to compare at all to the next!
I looked at my current contest and all the other contests that are going on around me and thought I need to do something that big. For a few weeks I’ve been procrastinating about doing it, but I just haven’t. I’m guessing that some of you may be the same but I said to myself now is the time to do something and ask!
Something my Dad has always said to me is if you don’t ask you won’t get and he couldn’t be any more true.
Sending Your Email
Now is good a time as ever to open up your email and write to them or go to their website and use their contact form. Writing this email isn’t a quick process so try not to rush it. You will want to write about email kindly and state:
- What you intend to do with the competition
- What other sponsors you are hoping to get (or have)
- Launch date
You can include other information but this is common information that is requested. Be kind with what you are writing and think about how you put things. I can’t really tell you how to write it but as long as you don’t demand anything, then they will not mind reading your email and seeing what they can do. Kindly state that you don’t mind anything at all, you don’t want be giving the impression “Give me $100,000, thanks and bye :)”
Choosing the Right People
It’s ok to ask totally random people but they are less likely to sponsor you than people that you regularly interact with. Asking people that know you are a regular of their blog will go a lot further.
Be Positive
I wasn’t really confident what I would hear back from many people but after a few days I had my replies and my confidence grew! Just because you’re small in the massive world of blogging it doesn’t mean you’re not going to be noticed. The only way you’re going to do well is to do something about it.
Holy Crap!
Be ready to expect the unexpected. I gave it a long shot and I wrote to big companies and massive blogs and didn’t expect to get anything. A company that has been in the industry for many years decides to sponsor me? A blog that is the fastest growing in the industry? Holy crap! That’s exactly what I thought, but it happened.
Be Grateful
It’s unpredictable what you may be sent but receiving anything is appreciated because when you think about it, they are giving it away for free. Be extremely grateful by sending them an email back thanking them as all the benefits of the prizes will help your blog tremendously. Make sure you show your appreciation and I’m sure they’ll be happy.
Remember never be afraid to do anything!

Thats a pretty inspiring post. I wrote to a major video game blog recently about one of my stories and it spread all over the net to huge gaming sites. Kotaku, gamespot, 1up.com. it was pretty sweet. You never know what will happen until you take a chance.
It’s all about taking chances, thanks for your input.
IT’s great that you took the initiative! It’s the same in my case for scholarship applications. Believe in ourselves, that’s the way to go!
