Jeremy Clarkson - Supercar Showdown

Posted on December 28th, 2007 in Cars | 1 Comment »

This being a gift I got for Christmas from my girlfriend I decided to review it to give you an insight to what I think of it and maybe to convince you to buy it or deter you away from it. It was released in November 2007 and its one for those Top Gear fans or people looking for that buzz from watching cars that are just amazing. Anyone who watches will be in overdrive looking at the cars, you will be dreaming about these cars by the time you are done ;).

Jeremy Clarkson Supercar Showdown

Whats It About?
Jeremy Clarkson sets out on a quest to find the ultimate supercar. Giving he knows his stuff he provides you with detailed descriptions of the cars and takes you on a test drive with each of the cars. You are watching him drive at high speed and I can guarantee you will be wishing to drive that car. The noises you hear are like candy to a baby.

Jeremy Clarkson races cars to test the performance and gives you personal opinions on what he thinks. It also provides you with a lot of knowledge, 95% of people would not likely have known before. The price of the cars will keep you in ore as he tests some of the most expensive cars on the planet.

Humour
You can be sure that Jeremy Clarkson delivers the reviews with great humour and the quotes and editing are funny. His enthusiasm in his job makes the Supercar Showdown great fun to watch.

What cars are tested?
- Audi R8 - I really want one of these
- Lamborghini Murcielago :o
- Ascari A10
- Radical
- Ferrari 599
- Citroën C6
- Renault A610
- G-Wiz
- Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
- Ferrari F430
- Porsche GT3
- Aston Martin Vantage Convertable
- Bugatti Veyron :o

A bit of Bugatti!

Bugatti Veyron

Jeremy takes this car for a spin, being a road legal 1000 horsepower car that has a top speed of 250mph +! You learn about the creation of it and you learn why its the daddy of all supercars. Not firstly for its price, ouch.

A Trailer
Here is a trailer to wet your appetite for this DVD,

And on that Illustrious Bombshell!
I’ve watched the DVD many times now and I’ve enjoyed it every time I have watched it, its funny, interesting and very cool. It is something you have to be interested in to gain the full experience from what is being shown, but if your looking for a present for someone its definitely a great present.

Christmas Goes For Another Year

Posted on December 27th, 2007 in Blog Related | No Comments »

It Has Been Busy The Past Few Days!
So it is all over for another year, all the food you can probably eat has been consumed and you given and received your presents. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. I spent time with my family this Christmas visiting my aunts for nearly 3 days. We had Roast Beef, Pork and Chicken with vegetables and potatoes followed by (I had) Apple Pie and custard. Later on in the evening we had snacks like cheese and biscuits but I didn’t like those so I had bacon wrapped mini sausages instead, which are like one of the best things for Christmas.

Apple Is In The Christmas Spirit

Posted on December 22nd, 2007 in Videos | No Comments »

Christmas Day is Nearly Here!
Well it is only 2 and a half days left, it is actually 2 days, 5 hours and 25 minutes as I write this. Have you done your Christmas shopping all yet? I finished mine today and the shopping centre is absolutely packed full and I was there first thing in the morning! What have you bought for your family? Seen anything good?

Seeing as I was down the shopping centre I took the time to go into the Apple Shop as it is always cool to just go in there and play with everything. I can not help but say, I want everything in that shop! But I can not see that happening so I’ll just keep dreaming. The Apple shop is so uncomplicated. Everything is in place and so ‘minimalistic’. The screens on the iMacs are huge! I must get a pair of the earphones that they have connected to all the devices that are playing music, they may be big but they are very good.

Apple Ads
Browsing the web I decided to look at some of the ads that Mac have and they are quite funny, well for people not involved with Microsoft. I remember the first Apple advert I saw for Mac and it was very effective and Apples latest advert does just the same but with a Christmassy feel, seeing as it is Christmas.

The fact that the ‘coolness’ of Mac guy and Santa laugh at the PC ‘Bill Gates’ lookalike is just genius, they certainly know how to make ads.

Kontera
I will soon be looking into using more methods of monetizing my blog, by starting to use Kontera. Kontera is offering a current sign up promotional offer of gaining $25 more on top of what you earn if you reach 50,000 impressions, that’s not unique visitors for some people wondering. Kontera offers you in text blog links that earn you money. They are integrated with your text and pick keywords and an advert related to that word appears as you hover over the link. They say it is simple to install and use, so maybe you should try it.

Remember Zymic?
I’ve posted a review of Zymic’s web hosting here and their services they offer but for Christmas time they currently have a competition open! This simple link explains all; http://www.zymic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1901 You simply have to start posting in their forum. It is the low-budget way to get some visitors flowing to their website, everyone gasps at the chance to get something free, especially if you have a website hosted with them and need a domain.

A Spruce Up
I’ve been working hard and Christmas day is fast approaching so no much time has gone into the website but a new logo has been added and I’m currently working on changes for the website and posting fresh content. If you appear to see any bugs please leave comments as I will need to fix them!

The Machine

Posted on December 22nd, 2007 in Reviews | No Comments »

What’s Is This About?
A very kind person and owner of Machine were kind enough to create my new logo for the website, in return of a website review. I am happy enough to actually review this website because of the work that is on it! It is the personal portfolio of the Machine where he displays his graphics, sound and writing for others to appreciate.
The Machine Layout

The Layout
When you first visit the site you are greeted with a very interesting website indeed. The flash work at the top of the page is very hypnotising to say the least. The sound is very drumming but this can be turned off at the viewer’s choice, but does not remember you if you return so this has to be turned off each time you visit. The fonts used on the layout are serif fonts and gives the layout a very ‘old’ feel to it, and this compliments the use of only black and white. The layout is somewhat skinny and leaves quite a lot of black blank space to the sides which in my personal opinion I would expand and make use of more of my page space.

You will need to have flash installed and change some of your security settings on your browser as advised when you visit the site to get the most out of your visit. Maybe this could be changed in the future so more people can use the site without the fuss of having to change things.

We do not really Learn Much About The Machine
Something I’ve noticed, is I do not really know much about the owner of the website when visiting as the ‘info’ page does not provide much information, an about section that outlines key facts about him and his journey to where he is now. It is always good to learn about the website owner.

The WorkThe Machine Work

This work which you are greeted with when you visit the 3D section is very creative and sublime. You can view the images fully by downloading them. Displayed are 3D creations of models like a Rolls-Royce and a Yacht, certainly striking to anyone who has not seen these models before.

There is also a photography section where you can view the photos that the machine has taken, as well as computer-generated images and screensavers. You can also read his published articles that he has written as well as other ‘random ramble’ that may interest you as a good read.

Its definitely a unique visit and worth a view of his work.

How I Chose My Domain Name

Posted on December 13th, 2007 in Internet | 1 Comment »

A Few Facts
One thing that was a really big problem when creating my site was choosing my domain. I spent a very long time searching the internet for suggestions. There are currently 96,569,403 domains active, with 562,261 being registered up to 21:43 GMT on the 13th Dec 2007 and is around 6/7 domains being registered every second. Well, that’s quite a lot. Well actually that’s loads! Availability of domain names is being smaller and smaller so when you are choosing your domain, the simple one you want may be sadly, gone.

What TLD?
There are many TLD extensions you can have for your domain (the bit that’s at the end of your website name e.g. the .com bit, the most common being .com which is used for commercial businesses. There is also .net for commercial networks, .org for non-profit organisations, .biz for businesses, the list goes on. It is probably advised that you use the right TLD for your domain as it just wouldn’t look right, but most TLDs do not require you to use it for intended purpose of the TLD.

When choosing your domain you are really going to want to know what you want your website is going to be about before choosing a domain name. A question that I was always asked when I was asking for peoples ideas on a domain name was “What is your website going to be about?” If your company has a specific brand then obviously you want to be looking for a domain related to your company but if you just trying to name your new website then here is what I did.

Keywords = More Traffic
An important thing that I was told was look for keywords, many people search keywords in search engines e.g. website, blog etc. If your domain name contains these keywords, for example thatblogsite.com contains blog and site. Having keywords in your domain is a strong way of driving more traffic to your website. Next let’s keep things simple in choosing your domain, you do not want to confuse your visitors or people when you are advertising it with domain names that are hard to spell or domain names that are hard to remember, it just wont be worth doing the site.

Log That Idea!
Every so often you will have ideas that pop-in and out of your head, it is important to have a domain checker like on GoDaddy loaded so you can perform a quick search. Trust me it will get quite annoying when you think “Oh yes, that’s a brilliant domain I do not think someone will have it” chances are they already have but then again you may have a domain for your website if you find its available. GoDaddy also provides you with suggestions related to your search that you may be interested in if yours is not available.

Generate Your Domain
This brings me onto something else I did, and that was using websites that suggest domains, they may do this by keywords you enter so they can relate it to your website or they will just generate domains to try and find something you like. The image below is the result of a simple search ‘domain generator’. These websites get your mind working as they may provide you with a domain suggestion which you can work around and maybe combine ideas from other places to get the domain right.

Domain Name Generator Google

Relating your content to your domain is also a thing to think about to. For example this is a blog site and I’ve included the word ‘blog’. This already notifies the visitors that they will probably be reading a website that is a blog.

There are some domain name features that I avoid, these included domains with a ‘-’ in as users may sometimes just forget that its there and this means lost traffic, also talking in a sentence e.g. “My-site.com”, you would have to say “My (hyphen) site.com” which I just do not think sounds as good and is a little extra to say each time, it will sometimes cause confusion. Use of numbers for words is a big no-no in when choosing my domain, I decided not to choose e.g. ‘4′ for ‘for’, as once against saying it will just be confusing, “my website is “tiles4you.com, the 4 bit is the number 4, not the word ‘for’”. A little long-winded, you think?

The important thing about your domain name that it is unique and it fits to what you want, being happy with your domain is very important. Do not be to quick with registering a domain, a common problem is registering a domain name and not liking it in the future, especially days after getting it. Take your time, in the registration process and get it right.

Good Luck!
